The Lensbaby Double Glass ii optic is Lensbaby's newest optic and it's up there as one of my favorites! It's part of the Optic Swap System.
The DGii is a 50mm lens with an aperture range of f/2.5-f/22. It's described as being a combination of three different Lensbabies…the Double Glass, the Sweet 50 and the Creative Bokeh optic! It’s like having the best of three products combined into one. You’ll have the sweet spot of focus of the Double Glass and Sweet 50 but with the ability to change aperture on the optic itself and you'll have the ability to add in disks for a creative bokeh or cool texture added in camera rather than in post. Use the DGii with or without the creative bokeh aperture disks that allow you to add texture in camera. And unlike it's predecessor, the Double Glass, you can change the aperture by turning the aperture ring the optic.
To use this optic you'll need a Composer Pro ii for the best results. The Composer Pro ii is a housing that lets you tilt your lens up, down, left, right and any direction in between. If you have a straight body housing already you can use it, but you won't get the wide range of results that you will with the Composer Pro ii.
This optic is built more like the Soft Focus II but has the ability to have tack sharp images in that sweet spot. I’ll be honest here, I am far less concerned about the technical aspects of how it works than I am about the results I get when shooting with these lenses. All I’m really concerned with is how much I love the images this optic is producing for me!
